Ho Nyung Lee, distinguished scientist and leader of the Thin Films and Nanostructures group within the Materials Science and Technology Division, has been featured in International Innovation (pdf). The article describes a collaboration Lee led to develop a "sponge" that can absorb or shed oxygen atoms at low temperatures. Materials containing atoms that can switch back and forth between multiple oxidation states may be useful in catalysts, rechargeable batteries, sensors, gas converters and fuel cells. The study was published in Nature Materials last summer and was the topic of an ORNL news release.
