Vision
The Neutron and X-Ray Scattering (NXS) group's vision is to "be on the leading edge of scattering science" integrating measurement, analysis and application, to form both a theoretical and experimental understanding of materials
Mission
Provide world-leading science to support DOE’s emerging science programs and other selected areas of national importance by conducting both fundamental and applied neutron and X-ray scattering research.
R&D Scope
The NXS group is a research and development team with expertise in characterization and analysis of materials by neutron and X-ray scattering, Mössbauer spectroscopy, and other complementary characterization techniques. The NXS group has both basic and applied foci, seeking to understand the fundamental processes of materials behavior as well as the application of this understanding to real-world systems and problems.
Core Competencies
Neutron and X-ray scattering of crystalline and amorphous materials ranging from phase identification to residual stress to high temperature X-ray diffraction to inelastic scattering.
- Mössbauer spectroscopy with in-situ stages
- X-ray Computed Tomography with in-situ loading stage
- Teaming and collaboration both funded and in-kind
