Due to a genes unique nucleotide sequences acquired through horizontal gene transfer, the gene has a transcriptional repressor activity and innate enzymatic role. The gene can (i) enhance plant growth, (ii) adapt better to fluctuating high light and shade exposures commonly present in densely spaced plantations, (iii) increase atmospheric carbon sequestration, (iv) increase plant biomass accumulation, and (v) increase biofuel production.
