Nathan L Wood

Mr. Nathan L. Wood has both B.S and M.S. degrees in mechanical engineering with concentrations in machine design and automation/controls, respectively. Mr. Wood has been with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory over 16 years, with 11 of those years as member of the Technical Testing and Analysis Center (TTAC) team. His role with TTAC has been to provide mechanical engineering support by performing tasks such as designing test equipment, performing environmental, mechanical, and electrical tests, and evaluations of many types of radiation detection equipment. Projects have included field trials with remote, mobile, and portal monitoring systems used in the detection of radiological isotopes to include special nuclear material. Mr. Wood is currently a member of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards committee, TC104 and has provided validation data for and reviewed American National Standards Institute operational procedures. Also while at ORNL, Mr. Wood worked in the Nuclear Plant Aging Research group where he performed aging studies and work to develop of non-intrusive electro-mechanical equipment diagnostic tools and methods. He has over 25 years of experience as a mechanical engineer, with 16 of those related to the nuclear industry. In addition to his time at ORNL, Mr. Wood worked at Lucent Technology's (now Optical Fiber Solutions) optical fiber cable manufacturing facility for five years as a mechanical engineer in the automated material handling group and post-draw production group. Mr. Wood also worked for three years for The Epitec Group as an mechanical engineering contractor placed with the Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) where he evaluated proposals, assisted with writing specifications for purchasing new coaches, and performed factory in process and final inspections of new coaches.
