ISED car show raises money for YO-STEM

ISED’s Nov. 3 ORNL Gives car show drove donations of nearly $3,000 for YO-STEM.

The event on the main campus of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which included a silent auction and food trucks donating a percentage of their earnings, let past and present ORNL employees and their families showcase their vehicles. Admirers “voted” for their favorites by making a donation in that vehicle’s name.

Thirty-eight vehicles participated in the show, which included a section specifically for electric vehicles. Winners were:

First place: James Avenell, 1934 Ford Coupe, with $122 raised.

Second place: Roger O'Dell, 1969 Ford Bronco, with $117 raised.

Third place: Ricky Bullock, Harley Davidson Livewire, with $97 raised.

Car show “votes” alone raised nearly $900. In addition to the silent auction and food truck proceeds, ISED also sold T-shirts to raise money during ORNL Gives.

Proceeds go to ORNL employee Candice Halbert’s YO-STEM program, which provides STEM opportunities for school-age children who might not otherwise have them.
