Nuclear Facility Management

This section's groups maintain and update the nonreactor nuclear facilities that support the diverse research and development missions of ORNL and the nation.

The four groups are:

REDC Facility Management Group: This group is responsible for all the facilities within the Radiochemical Engineering Development Center

Bethel Valley Facility Management Group: This group is responsible for all the facilities within the Bethel Valley complex, which include the Radioisotope Development Lab, Irradiated Materials Examination and Testing Facility, and the Irradiated Fuels Examination Lab.

Transportation and Asset Management Group: Members of this group provide for transportation of nuclear materials on site in support of ongoing missions, and develop strategic plans for needed investments to keep these facilities operating over the long term.

System Engineering Group: This group of qualified engineers supports the maintenance and upgrade to the nuclear facilities and provides oversight of the systems that protect the workers and the public.

ORNL’s Radiochemical Engineering Development Center was recently recognized by the American Nuclear Society as a Nuclear Historic Landmark. For more than 50 years, REDC has been a global leader in isotope production and nuclear fuel cycle research.
