Engineered Microorganisms for the Production of Intermediates and Final Products

Invention Reference Number

201804151

Technology Summary

Conversion of plant material into value add products will be critical for replacing fossil fuel-derived molecules in the chemical industry to enable a renewable bioeconomy, and microorganisms provide a potential biocatalyst that can perform these conversions. However, natural microbes typically do not possess pathways optimized for high titer, rate, and yield production of desired molecules. Here, we provide a genetic modification that can increase yield of certain chemicals in an engineered microorganism when converting plant sugars into chemicals.
