Dr. Yang Chen received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is currently a Research Scientist in the Computational Sciences and Engineering Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where his research focuses on developing advanced optimization, simulation, and data-driven methodologies for complex energy and infrastructure systems. His work integrates multi-agent systems, digital twin frameworks, and machine learning to enable intelligent operation and resilience of power grids, multi-energy systems, and emerging cyber-physical infrastructures. His recent research spans smart grids and transactive energy, multi-functional charging infrastructure for electric and hydrogen-powered transportation, microgrid resilience, and AI-enabled analysis of healthcare systems. He has led and contributed to projects sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and the Department of Veterans Affairs, with results published in leading journals such as Applied Energy, IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, and npj Health Systems
