Fei Wang

Dr. Fei "Fred" Wang holds a joint appointment with ORNL and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK). His research is focused mainly on high-power, high-efficiency, and high-density power electronics -- technology critical to electrified transportation, wind and solar energy integration, data centers, and industrial automation.

Dr. Wang is Condra Chair of Excellence in Power Electronics and is a professor of electrical engineering at UTK. He is also a founding member and serves as technical director for the Center for Ultra-wide-area Resilient Electric Energy Transmission Networks (CURENT) at the university. Dr. Wang was selected for induction as a National Academy of Inventors Fellow in 2017. 

Dr. Wang received his B.S.E.E. from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Xi’an, China in 1982. In 1985 and 1990, he received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, respectively, in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California.
