Quantum-enhanced microscopes capable of probing classically inaccessible material properties have drawn increasing interest, but most proof-of-principle quantum microscopes have not surpassed classical limits. We explore the promise and the obstacles associated with the use of quantum light with reduced noise, or “squeezed” light, for quantum-enhanced atomic force microscopy, bioimaging, magneto-optical measurements, and Raman spectroscopy.
