Methane is a potent greenhouse gas. With its global warming potential of more than 80x of CO2 over a 20-year period or more than 25x over a 100-year period, oxidizing methane to CO2 is an effective pathway to reduce its environmental impact. Pd-based catalysts can initiate methane oxidation at about 350C, but the catalysts may suffer from gradual and irreversible deactivation. This regeneration method from this invention will allow more effective utilization of the catalysts.
