Engineered microbes for the conversion of lactic acid to butyric acid

Invention Reference Number

Technology Summary

The world’s energy demand is continually increasing, and the demand is primarily met with fossil fuels, such as petroleum and coal. Due to the increasing energy need, the negative environmental impacts of fossil fuels, and the depletion of the finite fossil fuel sources, renewable energy alternatives need to be used.

Many different forms of renewable energy are currently in use, including solar and wind power to replace natural gas and coal with clean electricity, but the production of renewable biofuels is necessary to overcome our oil dependence.
