Bio
Steve Pain is a research staff member in the Experimental Nuclear Astrophysics Group. Steve's professional interests are focused on the measurement of nuclear reactions for improved understanding of nuclear structure, reactions and astrophysics, and the development of instrumentation to further this endeavor. Particular astrophysics interests include the role of nucleosynthesis in massive stars, novae, x-ray bursts, supernovae and neutron-star mergers.
He conducts research and development at National and University Laboratories, including the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB), the ATLAS Facility at Argonne National Laboratory, the University of Notre Dame, the Texas A&M Cyclotron Institute, TRIUMF, JAEA and ELI. Steve stewards the ORRUBA array of silicon detectors for the measurement of transfer reactions using radioactive beams, and the GODDESS coupling of ORRUBA to the GRETINA and Gammasphere arrays of germanium detectors to enhance transfer-reaction measurements. He is a member of the JENSA and SECAR collaborations, and was a recipient of a DOE Early Career Award.
