Joe joined ORNL in 2020 and is currently a research scientist in Human Geography. His research, centered in computational social science and spatial demography, seeks to enhance high-resolution population and occupancy estimates with detailed demographic profiles that contribute knowledge of the linkages between people and the communities in which they reside and interact. Joe is currently the project lead for UrbanPop, a spatial microsimulation framework that produces high-resolution daytime and nighttime synthetic populations to aid planning and decision support objectives in areas including environmental hazards, public health, and energy/mobility.
