Dr. Jian Chen Leads and supports a variety of fundamental and applied research and technology innovations sponsored by government agencies and industries. Current major research areas include:
- Materials joining solutions toward high-volume electric vehicle manufacturing
- Advanced welding techniques for nuclear power plant construction/repair
- GPU-accelerated high-performance numerical algorithms and solvers for large-scale welding and additive manufacturing simulations
- Machine learning based inline manufacturing NDE, sensing, process monitoring and control
