Bio
Dr. Brechtl is currently an Associate R&D Staff Member at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. In 2019 he earned his doctorate in Energy Science and Engineering from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville where he was awarded the Chancellor’s Citation for Extraordinary Professional Promise. Since working at the lab, Dr. Brechtl has contributed to various research and development projects such as additively manufactured ceramics, advanced frost sensors, heat pump water heaters, irradiation effects, magnetocaloric refrigeration, novel heat exchangers, phase change materials, pool boiling, and dehumidification technologies. He has coauthored over 70 peer reviewed journal articles, 4 book chapters, and several technical reports and conference papers. Additionally, Dr. Brechtl has coedited 2 books, has multiple invention disclosures, and is a current member of The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society.
