Abhishek Shivanna

Computational Scientist

Dr. Shivanna is a Computational Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, specializing in biomedical natural language processing (NLP), deep learning, and clinical AI applications. His work focuses on development of transformer-based models and scalable NLP pipelines for analyzing complex healthcare data.

He is involved in projects that leverage large-scale clinical datasets to extract actionable insights from unstructured medical text. This includes developing systems for automated extraction of oncology treatment regimens, standardizing pathology report classification across diverse cancer types, and integrating structured outputs into downstream clinical workflows. His work also encompasses the design of generalizable models for clinical named entity recognition, relation extraction, and temporal event sequencing. These efforts support broader initiatives in population health surveillance, clinical trial matching, and health outcomes research, with a strong emphasis on robustness and scalability.
