ORNL conducted a one-week Generalist Course for radioactive material package shielding evaluation and nuclear criticality safety evaluations

•At the request of the National Nuclear Security Administration, Generalist and Analyst Courses were created for preparing DOE federal and contractor radiation shielding and criticality safety reviewers and practitioners involved in packaging and transportation activities to develop and review Safety Analysis Reports for Packaging (SARP) documents. 

•The courses were recently modified for a wider audience as result of interest by DOE-EM.

•A modified SARP Generalist Course was successfully completed by ORNL staff at the National Transportation Research Center the week of June 6, 2016, for a variety of students from across the DOE complex.

•Doug Bowen (course coordinator), Joel Risner, Don Mueller, Bryan Broadhead, and Kristin Ellestad conducted the course.

• A SARP Analyst course is currently planned to be taught at ORNL the week of September 12-16, 2016.
