Valentine G Anantharaj

I am a Computational Climate Scientist at the National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS) -- hosting and operating Summit, world's second largest supercomputer available for open science research. Recently, I also served in a technical leadership role, as a Joint Group Lead for the DOE Energy Exascale Earth System Modeling (E3SM) project.

I enjoy the challenges of solving "last mile problems" -- currently planning and executing the end-to-end distributed scientific workflow solutions at the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF). I am also developing machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) applications in climate and atmospheric sciences. I am a member of a team that recently used the Summit supercomputer to complete global 1-km climate simulations for two seasons, the first of its kind.

I have diverse professional experience in the broad areas of computational sciences & engineering, machine learning, scientific data management, applications & decision support frameworks for weather & climate sciences. My current focus is on advancing the leadership scale climate and earth system simulation and petascale data analytics & management activities at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
