Bio
Scott Basford is a Demographic Research Analyst with the Human Group group within the Oak Ridge National Laboratory's Geospatial Science and Human Security division. Scott is a 2015 graduate of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, where he received a M.S. in geography for his work studying migration trajectories of international students. In 2016, he came to ORNL in the former Geographic Information Sciences and Technology Group, where he works primarily on the Population Density Tables (PDT) project. Scott's work focuses on improving the reporting of residential building occupancy in refugee settlements; streamlining the dissemination of demographic statistics between PDT and LandScan Global, another population modelling project in the Human Geography group; and managing administrative boundary updates in PDT.
Scott's research interests are primarily in population geography, particularly immigration and immigrant integration, migration policy, and demography. His current research focuses on how to best leverage labor force statistics in daytime residential building occupancy estimates. Previously, he worked on an exploration of how the workplace serves as a critical site of the cultural integration of immigrants in their destination countries.
