Bio
Lisa Smith is a Senior Technical Staff member at ORNL with a bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from UCLA and Masters in Mechanical Engineering from USC. Lisa's main area of expertise is qualification and certification of material and production PBF-L parts for DOD customers. She has experience with additive design and quality support for additive (for builds and external companies). Lisa currently works at the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) in the Disruptive Manufacturing Systems Development Group. Lisa spends most of her time developing quality process controls, designing, and printing hardware for Additive Manufacturing (AM) systems. Lisa has nearly 18 years of engineering experience from the time before she joined the team at ORNL. Lisa's prior engineering work involved 10 years of additive design/qualification and 11 years of mechanical design/development/support for aerospace and space production systems. She is the Co-Ambassador of the East TN chapter of Women in 3D Printing and the Treasurer of the Smoky Mountain SWE. Lisa enjoys making additive an accessible manufacturing option from children in the community to high risk industry suppliers. She enjoys constantly learning and working on challenging projects.
