Leigh R Martin

Nuclear Chemical Engineer and Section Head (Interim), Integrated Fuel Cycle Section

Dr. Leigh Martin is a Senior R&D staff member and the group leader for Fuel Cycle Chemical Technology Research Group at the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Prior to joining ORNL in 2016, Leigh was a Distinguished Staff Scientist in the Aqueous Separations and Radiochemistry group at Idaho National Laboratory. He received his Ph. D in Radiochemistry from the University of Manchester (UK) in 2003. Leigh is a recognized expert in actinide and separations chemistry across the entire nuclear fuel cycle, performing research for sponsors including DOE-NE and NNSA. Dr. Martin has authored or co-authored over sixty peer-reviewed publications in the areas of actinide coordination chemistry, separations chemistry and radiation chemistry.  Additionally, he has coordinated and implemented multi-laboratory projects and executed complex field campaigns. Leigh has held numerous American Chemical Society (ACS) leadership positions and was named ACS Fellow in 2023.
