Joshua I Orege

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Joshua earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Industrial Chemistry from Ekiti State University and the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, respectively. For his undergrad thesis, he worked on converting non-edible oil into biodiesel via transesterification while his MSc project focused on the synthesis and characterization of carbamates from Mucuna flagellipes gum. After serving as a Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at the Ekiti State University for about four years, he advanced to pursue his Ph.D. at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, under the supervision of Professor Qingjie Ge at the Dalian National Laboratory for Clean Energy, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. His Ph.D. centered on COhydrogenation to fuels and chemicals specifically investigating Fe-based catalysts. His dissertation titled “Microstructure Investigation of Alkali- and Alkali-Earth Metal-Promoted Fe Catalysts for CO2 Hydrogenation to High-Value Olefins” provided key insights into catalyst behaviour and structure-performance relationship.

Joshua is an active member of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NoBCChE), and the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN). As an advocate of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) #7, #13, and #17, he is dedicated to fostering collaborations to produce impactful solutions for a clean environment, renewable energy, and climate change. His passion for using science to create a better world is reflected in his strong commitment to enhancing human capacity in science education through mentorship, innovation, and outreach to drive social and economic prosperity.
