Jeffrey J Powers
Nuclear Reactor and Fuel R&D Staff
Dr. Jeffrey Powers is an R&D staff member in the Reactor and Nuclear Systems Division (RNSD) at ORNL with research interests in the design and analysis of nuclear reactors and fuels. His current focuses fuels aspects of the DOE Versatile Test Reactor project and neutronics aspects of molten salt reactors. Recent previous work spans neutronics and thermomechanical fuel performance aspects of coupled multiphysics simulations for light water reactors (LWRs) as part of the Consortium for Advanced Simulation of LWRs (CASL), enhanced accident-tolerant fuel (ATF) and cladding technologies for LWRs, advanced reactors including molten salt reactors (MSRs) and fluoride-salt-cooled high-temperature reactors (FHRs), space reactors, and nuclear fuel cycle assessment. Prior to joining ORNL, Jeff earned a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
