Jeffrey J Powers

Nuclear Reactor and Fuel R&D Staff

Dr. Jeffrey Powers is an R&D staff member in the Nuclear Energy and Fuel Cycle Division (NEFCD) at ORNL with research interests in the design and analysis of nuclear reactors and fuels. His current work focuses on fuels thermomechanics aspects of the DOE Versatile Test Reactor project and supporting Environment Impact Statement (EIS) activities for the VTR. Recent work spans neutronics aspects of molten salt reactor, neutronics and thermomechanical fuel performance aspects of coupled multiphysics simulations for light water reactors (LWRs) as part of the Consortium for Advanced Simulation of LWRs (CASL), enhanced accident-tolerant fuel (ATF) and cladding technologies for LWRs, advanced reactors including molten salt reactors (MSRs) and fluoride-salt-cooled high-temperature reactors (FHRs), space reactors, and nuclear fuel cycle assessment. Prior to joining ORNL, Jeff earned a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
