Jay Chen

Plant Molecular Biologist and Geneticist

Dr. Jin-Gui (Jay) Chen is a Distinguished R&D Staff Member in the Biosciences Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and a faculty member for the Bredesen Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Dr. Chen is a Plant Molecular Biologist and Geneticist, leading research tasks in the U.S. DOE Center for Bioenergy Innovation (CBI), investigating the regulatory mechanisms underlying biomass productivity and characteristics. Dr. Chen also leads research tasks in the U.S. DOE Plant-Microbe Interfaces (PMI) Scientific Focus Area, investigating the molecular mechanism regulating plant-microbe interactions. In addition, Dr. Chen leads/co-leads projects funded by U.S. DOE BER’s Genomics-Enabled Plant Biology for Determination of Gene Function program, and by USDA/DOE’s Plant Feedstock Genomics for Bioenergy program. He serves on the editorial boards of Frontiers in Plant Science, PLoS ONE, and Journal of Plant Growth Regulation. So far (updated in 09/2020), Dr. Chen has published 135 articles and 5 U.S. patents.
