Dr. Jacob Smith is a postdoctoral research associate within the electron Microscopy and Microanalysis group at the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences. He graduated with his Ph.D in Materials Science and Engineering from North Carolina State University in 2023. His time at Oak Ridge National Laboratory began in 2022, where he completed his doctoral studies under the support of a fellowship via the office of Advanced Scientific Computing Research. His research interests are centered around the synergistic use of in situ transmission electron microscopy and machine learning to probe fundamental questions in materials science. He is deeply involved in ongoing efforts to develop autonomous data acquisition workflows for advanced scanning transmission electron microscopy characterization techniques.
