Bio
Dr. Hyer is an R&D Associate Staff Member in the Advanced Fuel Fabrication and Instrumentation Group where he works on additive manufacturing (AM) of metals. More specifically, using processes such as ultrasonic AM (UAM) and laser powder bed fusion to embed sensors in metals towards functionalizing components. His main research interests include applying AM technologies to support the nuclear industry, including qualification of alloys and components used in reactor vessels. Other interests include development and exploration of new and novel materials for AM towards high temperature stable alloys.
