Bio

Ethan C. Self attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2007 - 2011 where he graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in chemical engineering. In 2016 he obtained his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Vanderbilt University where his research focused on using particle/polymer electrospinning to prepare high performance fiber mat electrodes for Li-ion batteries. During his graduate studies, he was awarded a DAAD scholarship and spent 6 months at Merck KGaA in Darmstadt, Germany developing electrospun catalyst layers for fuel cells. Ethan's work at Oak Ridge National Laboratory focuses on the synthesis and characterization of high energy density cathodes for Li-ion batteries and polymer membranes for redox flow batteries.
