Bio
Dustin began his career at ORNL in 2009 as a storage system administrator, advancing to the storage team lead in 2016, and later advanced to group leader for HPC Storage and Archive in 2021. In this role, he oversaw the procurement, administration, engineering, and support of high-speed parallel file systems and archival capabilities that enable the leadership-class and scalable computing programs. Dustin led the deployments of the Alpine 250PB GPFS file system to support the Summit supercomputer in 2018 as well as the deployment of the Orion 700PB Lustre file system in support of the Frontier supercomputer in 2023. At the times of deployment, each of these storage systems were the fastest and largest parallel file systems in the world.
In 2024, Dustin took on an additional role as the ORNL Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF-6) Deputy Project Director, working with the project team to achieve successful CD-1 and CD-2/3 reviews. In early 2026, he transitioned to a new role as the Project Director for classified HPC. In this position, Dustin is responsible for preparing the classified HPC project for the standup of a new cross-directorate supercomputing enclave through a delegated DOE O 413.3B project in support of the U.S. Navy.
