Lance Lowe

Fuel Cycle Mechanical Engineer

Lance Lowe provides applied Mechanical Engineering solutions to a broad spectrum of nuclear and radioactive waste handling, packaging, processing, and management challenges.  He has supported commercial and government clients with technical design and analysis, drawing creation (AutoCAD), stress & strain structural and thermal analysis/calculations, including finite element analysis (FEA), and specialized radwaste container analysis and design. He has regularly created design specifications, managed engineered products and systems fabrication, and supported many other general mechanical and facility engineering activities.  Before joining ORNL, he worked at Energy Solutions (and related subsidiaries) and Y-12.  He is a licensed Professional Engineer (Mechanical Engineering – Machine Design) in TN and attended Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN, having received BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering.  His graduate research was funded by NCAM (National Center for Advanced Manufacturing) with work activities at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, UAH, and TTU Composites Labs.  His thesis is titled ‘Porosity Determination in Thin Graphite-Epoxy Composite Laminates Using Histograms of Ultrasonic C-Scans.’
