Dr. Carrell is an ecologist broadly interested in understanding plant and microbial community dynamics with a special interest in ecosystem resilience and resistance to environmental perturbations. Her research ranges from the microscopic to ecosystem level and include wet-lab, greenhouse, and bioinformatic skills. Dr. Carrell received her Ph.D. in Environmental Systems in 2014 at the University of California, Merced under the guidance of Dr. Carolin Frank. In 2015 she began a post-doctoral appointment with Dr. David Weston at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. In 2019, she transitioned to a technical professional role at ORNL expanding her skills in bioinformatics, sequencing, and dynamic project management. Dr. Carrell joined the Plant Systems Biology group as an R&D Associate Staff member in 2024.
