Ahmad I Abbas

Postdoctoral Research Associate - Energy Efficiency Engineer & Researcher

Dr. Ahmad I. Abbas is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Manufacturing Energy Efficiency Research & Analysis (MEERA) group at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). He provides technical support to DOE AMO’s Better Buildings, Better Plants program as a Technical Account Manager (TAM) by providing industrial sites with technical assistance activities, energy assessments and training, and energy management guidance. Dr. Abbas received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Mechanical Engineering with a dissertation focusing on increasing the efficiency of hydropower generation systems. Prior to joining ORNL, Dr. Abbas was a Research Assistant (Lead Student) in the U.S. DOE's Industrial Assessment Center of UWM (WM-IAC) for energy, productivity, and waste assessments. Also, he was a Research Assistant in the Hydro-turbines Lab in Water Technology Accelerator (WaTA) of UWM. Dr. Abbas also holding a B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering and a M.Sc. degree in Energy Systems. Besides his research and academic background, he worked as an Application Engineer with a leading HVAC manufacturer in the Middle East (PETRA Engineering) for 3 years. Also, he worked as a Maintenance Engineer at a dairy plant for almost one year. Dr. Abbas is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM®), a Renewable Energy Professional (REP™), and a Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP®) by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), and he is an active member of ASME and AEE.
