A Robust Cathode Electrolyte Interphase (CEI) has been Formed Through Surface Engineering


A novel approach has been demonstrated to create a conformal LiF surface layer on cathodes through ion-exchange metathesis that enables the formation of stable and uniform cathode electrolyte interphase (CEI).

This work addresses the critical issues of electrolyte degradation and CEI instability by showing that ion-exchange metathesis can be used to control the structure and composition of the interface, leading to safer, more efficient, and sustainable energy storage systems.
