Defect stabilizes the growth of 2D metastable materials

Scientific Achievement: A synthesis route to metastable monoclinic 2D PdSe2 crystals with high mobility and strong in-plane electrical anisotropy was discovered by defect-mediated chemical vapor deposition.

Significance and Impact: This bottom-up synthesis strategy for direct growth of metastable phase of emerging 2D materials is essential for the development of novel quantum materials for future electronic devices.
