The effects of partial Cr substitution for Ru in SrRuO3 are studied using supercell calculations. We fnd a strong tendency towards anti-parallel alignments of Ru and Cr moments resulting from hybridization between Cr t2g and spin polarized O states near the Fermi energy. The resulting strong local exchange interaction provides an explanation for the increase in the Curie temperature of SrRuO3 when alloying with Cr.
