Miller, recipient of an R&D 100 Award, is a fellow of the American Physical Society, and the Optical Society of America and is a member of the American Chemical Society. Most recently, Miller was named a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science for his contributions to multiphoton ionization spectroscopy and nonlinear optics, which are used in the analysis and characterization of materials.
Miller earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1971 from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a doctorate in physical chemistry in 1975 from the University of Colorado.
He and his wife, Gray, live in Oak Ridge and have a son, Marshall.
