She received the honor for her exceptional accomplishments as a science writer and magazine editor at ORNL and for her outstanding service to the East Tennessee chapter and the society. Krause will be honored at an awards ceremony May 19 in Anaheim, Calif.
Krause joined ORNL in 1975 as a staff writer for the quarterly ORNL Review and has been its editor since 1982. She has been a science writer for the Office of Communications and Public Affairs since 1987.
She received a bachelor's degree in English from the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, and a master's degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism, Northwestern University.
From 1969 to 1975, Krause worked as a reporter and writer for The Pittsburgh Press and The Oak Ridger. She has won more than 40 international and local STC awards, including two local Best-of-Show awards, for her publications and public relations work through the STC. She was elected associate fellow of STC in 1995.
Krause has served as secretary, public relations chair and newsletter editor for the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association and the Montessori Center of Oak Ridge. She was a publicist for the Anderson County Center for Community Justice. She is chair of the personnel committee and member of the session of First Presbyterian Church of Oak Ridge.
Krause and her husband, Herb, an ORNL physicist, live in Oak Ridge. They have two adult children.
ORNL, one of DOE's multiprogram national research and development facilities, is managed by Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corporation.
