The honor is conferred upon a select group of senior STC members for outstanding service and leadership in promoting awareness of the technical communication profession.
Buttram joined ORNL in 1990 and has been recognized for her role in writing and editing highly visible corporate publications and writing feature articles for DOE newsletters.
Before coming to ORNL, she spent 10 years as an editor and writer at the University of Tennessee - first editing training and informational publications for social workers in the Southeast, and then editing and writing user documentation for the university's computing center. She has received 21 STC chapter competition awards for her print and online publications.
Buttram earned her bachelor's degree in English in 1978 from the University of Tennessee.
She and her husband, Claude, live in West Knoxville with their daughter, Heather.
