Biogeochemical Dynamics

Delivering predictive understanding of environmental processes that control nutrients, trace elements, and contaminant transformations

The Biogeochemical Dynamics Group delivers a predictive understanding of the processes that govern the fate and transformation of trace elements, nutrients, and contaminants in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems over a broad range of spatiotemporal scales to advance DOE’s energy and environmental mission.

Our multi-disciplinary team—which includes expertise in hydrology, geochemistry, microbiology, and biophysics—takes advantage of Oak Ridge National Laboratory's world-class experimental and computational facilities (i.e., neutron scattering, high performance computing resources, advanced imaging, and field-scale facilities and infrastructure) to generate foundational knowledge that addresses challenges impacting air, water, and land resources globally.
