This invention discloses a developed two-dimensional catalyst for efficient, selective and stable hydrogenation of CO2 to CO at temperatures as high as 600 degrees C. The bare catalyst shows high activity at temperatures as low as 400 degrees C and reaches equilibrium conversion above 550C with close to ~100% selectivity to CO. The CO production rate (umol/g.s) of the 2D catalyst is the highest ever reported for RWGS reaction. With only 1 mg catalyst and at a very high gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of 60,000,000 mL/g.min (close to large scale reactor condition), the 2D catalyst shows excellent stability in both activity and selectivity in the tested 200 hr period at 600 degrees C. The combined high rate, selectivity and stability enable the 2D catalyst a strong candidate for industrial application of the RWGS process to produce syngas and follow-up value added chemicals and fuels.
