The SCORCH cell is an advanced flow-cell platform designed for real-time monitoring of high-temperature liquid systems, including molten salts and other hazardous process streams. Traditional monitoring approaches struggle in these environments because of extreme temperatures, corrosive materials, and limited sensor compatibility. SCORCH enables continuous optical analysis of flowing liquids without direct contact between sensitive optical components and the sample stream. The technology supports multiple spectroscopic techniques within a single platform, improving process monitoring, impurity detection, and operational awareness in demanding industrial environments.

Description

SCORCH is a high-temperature spectroscopy flow cell designed to provide optical access to flowing molten salts and other challenging liquid streams while protecting sensitive instrumentation from harsh operating conditions. The platform supports multiple optical measurement approaches within a single integrated architecture, enabling simultaneous or complementary analysis of chemical composition, elemental content, and other process indicators in real time.

The system is engineered to minimize challenges commonly associated with high-temperature liquid monitoring, including material compatibility, sample splashing, sensor degradation, and clogging risks. Its flow-cell configuration allows continuous measurements on moving liquid streams while maintaining separation between the sample and optical interfaces. The design also supports remote placement of sensitive electronics through fiber-optic integration and adaptable spectrometer configurations.

SCORCH is compatible with high-temperature and corrosive environments relevant to nuclear, industrial process, and chemical monitoring applications. The platform may also accommodate additional spectroscopy modalities, providing flexibility for future monitoring and diagnostic capabilities across a range of hazardous fluid systems.
