Uwaila C. Iyare

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Uwaila Iyare is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He completed his Ph.D. in Geoscience in 2022 at The University of the West Indies (Trinidad and Tobago), following an M.Phil. in Petroleum Geoscience (2016) and an M.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering (2011) from the same institution. Since then, he has held postdoctoral positions at Los Alamos National Laboratory (2022–2025) and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (2025–present).

His expertise spans geochemistry, geomechanics, and subsurface energy systems, with a focus on fluid–rock interactions, chemical reactivity, and coupled chemo-mechanical processes in complex geological environments. His research integrates experimental methods, including high-pressure/high-temperature systems and neutron scattering techniques, with analytical and modeling approaches to investigate mineral transformations, fracture behavior, and transport processes in porous geomaterials.

His work is centered on understanding how microscale chemical and mechanical processes influence macroscopic reservoir behavior, with applications to geothermal energy, carbon sequestration, and underground hydrogen storage. He is particularly interested in bridging fundamental science with applied subsurface challenges to improve prediction and performance of energy systems.
