Postdoctoral Research Associate

Stephanie Wong is a postdoctoral researcher in the Geochemistry and Interfacial Science group. During her Ph.D at UConn Health, her research focused on the elemental, molecular, and mechanical changes in biomimetic bone and tooth mineral during changes in bodily fluids that occur with age. She transitioned into geochemistry at ORNL and is currently evaluating the effects of substrate surface texture, such as roughness, on the heterogeneous nucleation of carbonate minerals, focusing on the thermodynamics and kinetics of nucleation. She is also exploring the heterogeneous nucleation of rare earth minerals on different mineral substrates. Additionally, she is determining the crystallization pressure of minerals in confinement using a combination of in-situ imaging, mechanics, and acoustic emissions. Her expertise encompasses materials science, analytical chemistry, and small scale mechanics in biomineralization and geochemistry.
