Mina is joining ORNL from Lucid Motors, where he was a Technical Specialist in the Efficiency, Performance, and Systems Team. At Lucid, Mina led a team of 4 and worked on a variety of topics including thermal management systems for the vehicle cabin and powertrain, thermal comfort, heat exchangers, and others. He co-authored 2 conference papers and 3 patents at Lucid. Prior to that, Mina did his PhD at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), where he was part of the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Center (ACRC). His dissertation covered regime transitions in falling film heat exchangers and their application in desalination. Mina worked on other projects at UIUC: creating; characterizing; and testing enhanced surfaces for pool boiling, and modeling climate control systems for aircrafts (collaboration with Rolls Royce). Mina worked on energy and water conservation in office buildings in Australia, as a Building Systems Engineer at Buildings Alive. He also joined JLL to manage the maintenance of 30 facilities at Sydney Airport in Australia, where he managed preventative and reactive maintenance of HVAC, fire, plumping, and electrical systems, as well as managing health and safety for the contractors’ work. Mina received his MSc from the lab of applied thermodynamics and refrigeration at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Sweden, where his thesis was about the performance of constant speed and variable speed compressors in ground source heat pumps. He also worked as a research engineer at the same lab to build and instrument a test setup for testing compressors with natural refrigerants. Mina interned at Copeland in Belgium, where he worked on modeling enhanced vapor injection systems, and learned about other compressor technologies. Mina designed central HVAC systems during his BSc at Ain Shams University in Egypt, and also as Mechanical System Design Engineer at Dar Al-Handassah
