Mariam Khanam

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Dr. Mariam Khanam is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Water Resources Science and Engineering Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Her current research investigates socioeconomic flood risks and infrastructure resilience within the context of extreme flood events, integrating hydrological processes, and societal vulnerabilities.

Prior to joining ORNL, Mariam completed her PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Connecticut (UConn), where she recently . Her doctoral research centered on assessing non-stationarity in future flood hazards driven by extreme flood events. Mariam also holds an MSc in Geography from The University of Alabama and a BSc in Water Resources Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).

Mariam has developed modeling framework and flood risk assessment tools throughout her research tenure while contributing to numerous flood resilience projects. She has published Flood Geomorphic Potential (FGP) dataset for High Mountain Asia (HMA) region in the NSIDC (National Snow and Ice Data Center) repository. Her broader research interests include hydroclimatic extremes, flood risk modeling, infrastructure resilience and river geomorphology.
