Nuclear Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls Engineer

As a Nuclear Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls Engineer for the Research Reactors Division in the Neutron Sciences Directorate at ORNL, Mrs. Kieler is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the High Flux Isotope Reactor. This 85MW reactor is the highest flux reactor-based source of neutrons for research in the United States, and it provides one of the highest steady-state neutron fluxes of any research reactor in the world, enabling world-class capabilities for neutron scattering, isotope production, materials irradiation, neutron activation analysis, and nuclear physics.

Mrs. Kieler holds a M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. Prior to coming to ORNL, she was a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Florida. Before that she served the U.S. Navy onboard the USS Ronald Reagan as a Nuclear Electrician’s Mate, where she was a qualified Load Dispatcher and the ship’s Quality Assurance Training Manager.
