Eric W. Lee

Research Scientist

Eric Lee is a Research Scientist in the Biostatistics and Biomedical Informatics Group within the Computing and Computational Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). His research interests lie at the intersection of machine learning, natural language processing, and biomedical informatics. He develops computational methods for analyzing large-scale electronic health record (EHR) data, with applications in clinical prediction, clinical natural language processing, healthcare delivery analysis, and population health. His current research includes longitudinal modeling of structured EHR data, large language model–based clinical text analysis, and statistical frameworks for understanding variation in healthcare delivery using EHR-derived care pathways.

Prior to joining ORNL, Eric received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Emory University. His doctoral research focused on graph representation learning, particularly developing methods for learning representations of heterogeneous and hierarchical networks for biomedical knowledge discovery.
