Cary E. Crawford

Director, National Security Materials and Signatures Division

Cary Crawford is the Division Manager for the National Security Materials and Signatures Division within Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s National Security Sciences Directorate. He previously served as Division Director for Nuclear Nonproliferation and helped lead the division’s evolution into a new organizational structure following significant growth.

Cary has more than three decades of experience in safeguards, security, and nuclear materials control and accountability across the DOE complex. Before joining ORNL in 2016, he held multiple technical and leadership roles at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and earlier served at the Pantex Plant and the U.S. DOE National Training Center.

He is recognized for his strategic leadership in national security and for identifying opportunities to integrate disparate capabilities into research and development in ways that are not always immediately obvious, leveraging the full breadth of ORNL capabilities to strengthen mission impact. Cary is a Past President of the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management and a Fellow of the INMM.
