Yan Chen is a neutron scattering scientist at VULCAN beamline (BL-7) at the Spallation Neutron Source. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Tsinghua University in China, and his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Central Florida. He came to ORNL as a postdoctoral research associate in the Chemistry and Engineering Materials Division, and in 2017, he stepped to the Vulcan Instrument Scientist role. His scientific interests include synthesis mechanism, structural transition and deformation behavior in oxides, alloys, and heterogeneous materials for engineering and energy applications by in-situ neutron diffraction.
